Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Handheld Massager reminds us of the fact that massage is one of the oldest forms of healing. In olden times, muscular pains and strains were treated with different oils by expert masseurs. The Chinese, Indians and Persians are known to have used this healing form for ages, and massage is still used in these cultures most prolifically. In todays context, it can be said that massage is one of the most popular forms of therapies for chronic conditions like lower back pain, joint and muscular pains. Massage also helps alleviate mental stress and depression. To make things convenient, Handheld Massager are doing the job that a masseur does.

The Handheld Massager is your personal masseur, which acts on your commands. These devices are designed to work on the effected part efficiently because of a flexible head. Modern massager can easily fit into the contours of the body to perform an effective job. You can activate the vibrator for the massage, and may also switch on the heat to provide extra relief. These devices come with an assortment of attachments to suit different requirements.

Check your store for different Handheld Massager styles and features. You may determine first, what you need the massager for. Some Handheld Massager come with advanced features including programmable custom massage styles. You can opt for a device that comes with a number of strength-levels, to help you adjust the massage strength according to your need. If your back pain condition is acute, you may like to use a lower strength setting. You could even program your massager at different massage intervals. Look for a massager with a conveniently placed control panel that is easy to operate.

Handheld Massager with heat functions are helpful in case of conditions that require deep heat treatment for sore muscles. Do not compromise on quality, as a branded massager will serve you better. Electrical devices can go bad; so make sure to check the warranty clause well.

Pensions

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Pensions are definitely a political hot potato in most countries around the world as population demography changes with an increase in the numbers of retired citizens. Canada is no exception as private pension schemes are being promoted to take the heat off the Governments Canada Pension Plan that many analysts believe will not be able to cope in the future. Please note that any pension payments are classed as income and will be subject to standard taxation rules. Using the services of a professional financial planner will enable you to plan your retirement income in the most tax efficient way.

There are 3 levels of pensions:

Old Age Security

The most basic level of state pension is the Old Age Security payments. This is available as a monthly payment to most people over the age of 65.

Canada Pension Plan (CPP)

Once you are working in Canada, your paychecks will show deductions for the CPP to a set annual limit (approx $1800) (Quebec has its own system). The amount you pay is based upon 2 limits and your employment type (self or employed). The lower limit is frozen at $3500 and the maximum limit (adjusted every year), currently $40,500 you will only pay a percentage of the income between these limits. If you earn $100,000 a year you will not pay any more into the plan than someone on $50,000 a year. These payments will enable you to receive benefits from the plan should you become disabled or retire and, if you die, to your surviving family members.

RRSP

To encourage Canadians to save for their retirement, the Government has given substantial tax breaks to people who pay into Registered Retirement Savings Plans RRSP. The plans are government sponsored but privately administered with management fees charged by the companies that offer them. All capital gains in the plan are sheltered tax free while the plan is in force. Any cash withdrawn in retirement is declared as income on your annual tax return.

There are annually adjusted limits on the amount you can contribute to your RRSP. These are 18% of your previous years Canadian salary to a maximum of $14500. This is where being an immigrant becomes a pain. Basically, you will not have an allowance for the first calendar year you are living in Canada so any payments you make will be classed as an over contribution. You can get away with a $2000 over contribution, but over that you will be taxed. If your employer pays into a company plan that is a benefit for all the employees you will not be penalized just be careful with any voluntary payments.

There are special rules governing the use of RRSP funds. Some plans are locked in and therefore inaccessible until the plan matures. Most RRSP arent locked in and so are available to be withdrawn before plan maturity though penalties and conditions will apply.

Many couples opt to use a spousal RRSP. If one partner earns substantially more than the other this gives a tax break straight away by giving the higher paid partner some of the other persons allowance. The retirement income is evenly split between the two which will reduce the tax paid.

Normal retirement age is 65 though you can work beyond that. Before age 69 you will have several options for more information go to http://www.onestopimmigration-canada.com/Pensions.html

Before You Leave (For newcomers)

The chances are you will have pension schemes in the country you are leaving either private or state run. This can cause a major headache to sort out.

The first thing to do is to ensure that you have up to date information on all pensions you may be entitled to and these plans have your latest contact details. Most pensions will pay out only if the plan holder contacts THEM. You must ensure you have the contact details and let them know you are moving to Canada.

Check and get written confirmation that the pension plan will pay to a Canadian bank account if not you will have to make alternative arrangements

For state pensions, Canada has social security agreements with many different countries regarding qualifying time for state pensions so check these to see if it helps you.

If you choose to transfer to a Canadian plan, check to see how much it will cost and if there are any additional penalties incurred as it may not be worth it. If it is ensure all the ground work is completed before you leave and you have points of contact to deal with to make it a smooth transfer or someone to sort it out if its not! You cannot open a Canadian Pension until you have a SIN (Social Identification Number) so this cant be done until you have landed.

Are You Overweight, Is It Too Late ?

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

When is it too late to start exercising and eating healthy. Some people say never, I disagree with that. I think it would be hard to do that when you are 6 feet under because you never started eating healthy and exercising. But as long as you are still breathing, it is not too late.

If you are overweight it makes life much harder, getting up and down, walking anywhere, much less trying to exercise. Out of the corner of your eye you see people staring and whispering. They might as well go ahead and point, too.

The best time to start an exercise program and eating healthy is when you are young. Unfortunately that is not always the case. As a person gets older, that old saying, “It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks”, is very true, but not impossible. For whatever reason people tend to be less active.

At any age a person should and can improve their way of eating and getting some kind of exercise. You don’t have to quit eating, if you do that, you might dry up like a prune. Learning a new way of eating and enjoying new foods, with a friend or group, is a good way to lose the weight.

Walk with a friend 2 or 3 times a week. Start off walking short distances and increase it a little at a time. You’ll be surprised at how much better you begin to feel each day. Between the eating healthy and exercising you’ll feel like an new person in no time and life will be better and easier.

Soon those same people who were staring and whispering will come up to you and say, “Don’t I know you, you look so familiar, but I just can’t place you?” And you will smile and say, “You must be mistaken, that was another person.”

Start today with your new way of life; you’re going to love the way you feel.

Guide to terrorism and world markets

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

What worse could have happened to the US economy then the 9th September 2001? Some perverted religious fanatics demolished the embodiment of the world trade. Terrorism is a threat to all the nations of the world. The human loss due to these activities cannot be condemned with words. The ruthlessness of the terror traders has an impact on each and every segment of life. The extent of these activities is extending by the day and the generally silent Europe too is feeling the cramps.

The world markets face the wrath of the terrorist activities in their faces. There is an overall loss to the business in many ways. The people suddenly fear traveling through air. The airline companies themselves are more apprehensive about continuing with their normal work. Apart from the loss in passengers, the security too has to be made very tight and the loss has to be born by the companies.

As a matter of fact, all sectors are put to a stand still due to these terror strikes. The direct effect of these is seen in the sudden drop in the markets. The stock prices do drop down and the trading comes to a stand still, however the business seldom stops and the markets show their cushioning effect by regaining the vigor. But at times the loss of even trading day can be fatal to a countrys economy.

Such attacks also incur a direct burden on the defense budget. It goes without saying that the governments do take desperate measures to minimize the losses and cover the country against the future threats. The new areas of defense research open up and thus fresh jobs are created. This brighter side of the attacks is over-shadowed by the loss of lives and panic that is created with in the country. The government, under such circumstances, looses the track of their priorities and the developmental works are sidelined. This causes damage to civic society.

The worst hit by terrorist activities is the third world countries. The terrorists make these vulnerable counties their bases and from here carry out the destructive activities. Their influence in such countries shows and threatens the developed world of their power and dominance. Thus such countries make an appropriate guinea pig. If a terrorists strike a big country or a city, the whole world knows about it. The tragedy with these countries is that their miseries are not broadcasted because of their non connectivity with the rest of the world. They are thus the breeding grounds of terrorism and worst hit areas by this destructive activity.

A joint effort by all the countries of the world, taking along the third world countries, is required to curb the growing tentacles of terrorism. Many big nations have joined hands against terrorism after major attacks in the world. They also need to include the most vulnerable victims of terrorism, the developing countries. Support to them, both economic and military, should be provided to them by the capable nations. Bodies like UN must pass resolutions and work upon them to uproot the cannibalistic practice of terrorism. Unless we dont join our hands it would be very difficult to face these destructive forces and our economies will be victims of their activities.

The Ghost Of Fear

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

To understand the ghost of fear, let me tell you a short parable:

Once upon a time, Jake and Fear were friends. Fear was Jakes constant companion, and Fear helped him a lot. Fear saved him from lots of troubles and dangers, and helped him choose right paths and ways in his life.

Whenever Jake would carelessly go with the wrong company of friends or make a very careless decision, Fear would butt in and remind him of his fathers counsels and admonitions. When walking right in dangers path, Fear would whisper a word of warning to dissuade him from proceeding.

Fear would also tell him the proper behavior when Jake was in front of the elderly and other people in authority. Fear would give him the ability to do and say only the respectful and kind words to people. Fear would also tell him to be polite and humble when there was a conflict with people he was related with. In short, Fear has been helping him to keep out of troubles and dangers. Fear was really a friend. Jake liked Fears company.

Then one day, Jake met Doubt. Doubt seemed very concerned and sincere about Jake. Doubt said his closeness to Fear was remarkable but alarming. Doubt threw lies about Fear, distorting the truth that Jake knew about Fear. Worse, Doubt said Fear was actually taking him to a perilous direction, with Jake being unaware.

Jake asked Fear about the things Doubt told him. They had some discussions that somehow went a bit sour. They parted ways with some misunderstandings.

Then one day, Jake heard that Fear had suddenly died.

Doubt lost no time in scaring Jake about Fear. Doubt said that Fears premature death and his unsettled dispute with Jake might cause Fear to come back from the dead. Thus, the ghost of fear started to haunt Jake. He would remember the times when Fear accompanied him and warned him of bad things. But this time, he feared the voice of Fear.

The more Jake listened to Doubt, the worse he became afraid of Fear. Fear seemed to be no longer a friend, but a spooky entity that sought his destruction.

End of the parable.

The best way to exorcize or get rid of these ghosts of fear is to make fear somehow a friend again. You can use your fear to help you if you face the truth about it. Your negative imagination creates your ghosts. A crazy imagination is good if you use it to create a friendly ghost. This is what I recommend.

The book of Proverbs states: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Top 7 Advantages Of Autoresponder Services

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

By paying a modest monthly fee, you can have unlimited, sequential autoresponders working for you. Here are seven advantages of using paid autoresponder services.

1. Sequential Autoresponders

Although many web hosts offer unlimited autoresponders, each autoresponder is only capable of sending one response. With the use of sequential autoresponders from a paid autoresponder service you could, for example, send a seven-part e-mail course.

2. Build Customer Relationships

Building business relationships with paid autoresponder services can increase your sales. Marketing experts generally seem to agree that a person needs to be exposed to your message multiple times before they respond or buy. If someone subscribes to your autoresponder because of their interest in a subject, you can then supply them with helpful information on a regular basis. Thus, you establish trust and a relationship with your prospective customers. When they trust you, they are more likely to act on your recommendations and buy from you.

3. Tracking Capabilities

The built-in tracking capabilities of paid autoresponder services can lead to more effective advertising campaigns. You can track all the clicks made from your newsletters and autoresponders and can even run split tests to see which ads or offers appeal to your subscribers.

4. Deliverability

Paid autoresponder services cultivate relationships with major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and online services. It is in their (and your) best interests that your e-mails get through and they work very hard to achieve high deliverability. Some services supply a spam test to show you how spam filters would rate your e-mail. If your spam rating is too high, you can edit your e-mail to improve deliverability.

5. Protection from False Accusations of Spam

Since all e-mails you send using a paid autoresponder service are hosted on their servers, you are insulated from false accusations of sending spam (unsolicited commercial e-mail).

6. Compliance with the CAN-SPAM Act

As well, compliance with the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003, United States Public Law 108-187) is ensured by the paid autoresponder services. They make sure that legally required information is sent on each e-mail sent.

7. Flexibility and Scalability

You are not limited to one website with a paid autoresponder service. Create unlimited autoresponders and newsletters on multiple domains. Your monthly fee doesn’t change as your business grows.

Facial Hair As It Is Found In Cultures Around The World

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Facial hair is a secondary sex characteristic in human males. Most men develop facial hair in puberty. Many women also have some facial hair, especially after menopause, though typically much less than men. Eyebrows and eyelashes are also grown by both sexes of all ages.

Male pogonotrophy (the growing of facial hair; beardedness) is often culturally associated with wisdom and virility. Many men style their facial hair into beards, moustaches, goatees or sideburns. However, many others completely shave their facial hair. A man’s facial hair, especially short hairs that were missed in shaving, is often referred to as whiskers, although only certain nonhuman mammals have true sensory whiskers.

Women typically have little hair on their faces, apart from eyebrows and the fine fuzz nearly all people have covering most of their bodies. However, a few women have noticeable facial hair growth. Excessive hairiness (especially facially) is known as hirsutism, and is usually an indication of normal hormonal variation. In contemporary western culture, almost all women shave, tweeze or otherwise depilate facial hair which does appear, as there is considerable social stigma associated with facial hair in women. Freak shows and circuses once displayed (usually fake) bearded women.

Abraham Lincoln was said to have grown a beard because a little girl wrote him that he would look better with one.The amount of facial hair on a man’s face varies from individual to individual, and also between ethnic groups. For example, men from many East Asian, West African or Native American backgrounds typically have much less facial hair than those of European, Middle Eastern or South Asian descent, with Native Americans typically having little to none at all. Northern East Asians and Eastern Africans can grow conspicuous amounts of facial hair.

Everyone has facial hair, men and women of all ethnic backgrounds. Actually, most people have some amount of hair over most of their body. The only differences between peoples facial hair involve thickness and quantity.

In most cultures it is perfectly acceptable to have thick and large amounts of facial hair if you are male. In fact many cultures highly encourage facial hair for men, and thick beards are seen as a symbol of male virility, wisdom, and or power. Conversely, most cultures do not likewise value facial hair on women, and usually stigmatize it quite harshly. A woman with an abnormally large amount of facial hair is often made to feel embarrassed and is looked at as somehow less feminine than other women.

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

As you glance at the photos neatly aligned in their picture frames along the wall, they bring back a flood of memories of past special occasions, filling you with joy as you reminisce all those wonderful moments.

What better way to enhance these beautiful pictures than in pretty picture frames. Picture frames come in assorted shapes, colors and designs. These are perfect for exhibiting your most beloved photos and artworks. Likewise, they make wonderful gift items for any special occasion.

The days of simple and boring picture frames have long gone. Nowadays there are picture frames to match any decor. They come in many pleasing styles designed to blend with any motif.

When choosing picture frames there is one to suit every pocket and taste. If you are searching for a photo frame that would be perfect for wedding photographs, go for a silver-plated photo frame. Metallic style frames are also suitable for glamorous decorating occasions such as anniversaries.

For the more budget-conscious, there are artistic picture frames created with large matting surrounding a smaller photo. The extra space can be used to sign names and dedications. These are great especially for teens for proms, birthdays etc.

Poster frames, landscape, and portrait frames are also very affordable and can be hung from anywhere in the room.

You can also try to make your own custom picture frame. Just buy the materials and exercise your creativity and resourcefulness. At least you are free to create the frame with your desired style.

As consumers become more sophisticated, many are shunning the typical picture frames made of plastic or wood and instead are purchasing more innovative picture frames such as digital picture frames.

A digital picture frame allows you to display your pictures on your desk and table. It doesn’t have to be plugged into a computer as it has its own built-in memory card reader.

The digital picture frame is connected directly to your digital camera through a USB cable. It can store many photos depending on the size of the memory card. This innovative frame will store every moment that you capture in very clear resolution. Moreover, you can enjoy a full screen automatic slide show of all your pictures.

When buying your picture frame, make sure to consider not only the cost but also the durability and your preferred style of the frame. Select the frame that will suit your style and your budget.

No matter what shape or size, style or design, picture frames help you treasure your most precious memories of you and your loved ones. Happy viewing!

Football – How Steven Gerrads Presense Rattled my Rattle

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Football crazy a meaning of many meanings, number one is either crazy over the game or secondly going crazy for every time the word football is mentioned. When you have two sons cheering on their favourite teams i.e. Liverpool and Manchester United under the same roof it is hard to ignore. Ignorance on my part on the game has left me with a feeling of emptiness.
The times I screamed at the top of my voice to turn the television off, grown men kicking a ball into a net what next toddlers playing rugby.

Not sure of the trophy at stake for the big match playing on the screen but the cheers could be heard all over for every time goals were scored. The adrenalin rush became unbearable for me at times sending shivers down the spine with all the near misses of penalty shoot outs.
It all fell into place and made sense as to why football was so popular after the lads had explained the ins and outs of the game.

Over the years there has been sadness where fans have lost their lives due to unfortunate events at football matches. Then we have the violence where an innocent victim was on the receiving end of an unprovoked attack all because they batted for the other side.

Football is a game of skill where players battle it out on the pitch scoring goals for their town or country. So I say to the football hooligan leave the dedicated fan to cheer their team on in peace and let the battle with a reason behind it continue on the pitch. .

I still struggle to understand this off side ruling where one player has to be in front of the other before a pass. Without doubt this is a game of skill where physical fitness and endurance prevails but it seems that skills are also required in the mastermind department. For e g the football player takes control of the ball while under attack then on top of having to retain possession he has to seek out another player to pass the ball to in hope that he is not offside.

My rendition on this may be a little offside with my explanation of what I think this ruling means, maybe this is why I can not quite get my head round it.

Regardless of the rulings and referee decisions I will continue to support this very entertaining sport. I have regrets in my ignorant years where I missed out on the pleasurable moments as in i.e. sitting in the armchair fully adorned in woollen hat scarf and rattle. To think I used to scream to turn the television off when there was match on only to find myself screaming to turn it on.

I support no particular team, my attitude is may the best team win on the day but should Steven Gerrad bless us with his presence on the pitch then I say he can rattle my rattle any day.

My life has changed dramatically since I was first introduced to football, my sons lives have been turned upside down because I get to sit up front which entitles me to possession of the remote control when the match is in play.

Brian Urlacher

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Born in May 1978, this Pasco, Washington native is now an NFL linebacker for the Chicago Bears. As a child, Brian Urlacher moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico with his mother. Following high school, Brian went on to attend college at the University of Mexico. It was here that he shined as a strong safety for the University football team. Upon graduation, he immediately began pursuing his goal to play professional football and was drafted by the NFLs Chicago Bears. While most of his experience was as a safety position, he was assigned the position of middle linebacker for the Bears, which gave him the opportunity to showcase his tackling abilities, intelligence, speed and aggressive approach toward winning. An instant star, Urlacher was awarded the title of NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2000. Such recognition is not an easy feat, but everything seemed to fall in place for the youngster as he quickly rose to the top defensive rookie player during his inaugural season.

Throughout his career, Urlacher has participated in the Pro Bowl on five occasions and has upheld the Bears tradition of impressive linebackers. As a testimonial to his skills, Brian Urlacher was once again recognized in 2006. On January 6, he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. An honor awarded by the Associated Press, Urlacher received well over 50% of the panel votes to determine him as the recipient. An impressive 34 panel votes, out of 50, were cast for Urlacher.

Among the many achievements that Brian Ulracher has accomplished include exceeding the Bears single season tackle record in 2002. Additionally, he served as the teams leading tackle position for 3 consecutive years, including 2000, 2001 and 2002. Not only has Urlacher surpassed game records, but sales records as well. At times, his replica jersey has been an NFL bestseller. The collectibles and apparel industry is one of the largest revenue generators for any sport and football is no different. As fans desire to wear a replica jersey of their favorite players, it lends credence to a players skills and popularity as fans seek out the merchandise bearing their likeness.

The Chicago Bears have been long since known as a team that has powerful players with spirit to match. The windy city is in line to find great success with a breeze that seems to have brought Brian Urlacher all the way from New Mexico and into to the heart of Chicago and its NFL fans.

Gaming Revenue Options

When it comes to making money in the gambling industry, there are more than one way to skin a cat. Today I wanted to talk to you about the differences between two popular methodsprivate label verses affiliate programs. Chances are, you are more than familiar with affiliate programs, but are a bit green in the private label department. A private label sportsbook is like a revved up version of an affiliate program. Its the next level up.

So why should you even care? Its all the same right? Wrong. Unlike an affiliate program, you actually own the domain to the casino. In other words, the final destination is not someone elses website, its yours. As such, another advantage is you control the hosting situation. All the traffic is yours to keep, which means you dont lose valuable branding like affiliates do.

Perhaps these sound like minor bonuses to you. Well, heres a big one. As a private label partner, you have access to all player informationand I mean all. Affiliates are missing out on this major benefit. Its one reason why private label partners can earn a whole lot more than an affiliate ever could with the same amount of work.

Do you ever wonder how those players you refer are being treated? After all, players that are not treated right will leave. Well, private label partners get to comp their players and have a one on one experience if they choose. Unlike a simple affiliate, you have total control. You are building up your own equity. If you want to go the extra mile to ensure players keep playing you can. I think this is one of the greatest features of the private label system. Theres nothing worse than working hard to get players and having them leave the service, because the main company was not doing a good job.

Do you like money? I hope you said yes. Its a fact that private label partners earn more per player on average than any affiliate. You are losing money right now if you are in a sportsbook affiliate program. I dont know about you, but I hate losing money. Since we are on the subject of work and money, lets proceed to my last major point on the difference between private label and affiliate programsclick conversions.

You work extremely hard to get your traffic over to your affiliate program. Much of that traffic is lost on the way. Consider this example. If you are receiving 1,000 hits to your marketing page, how many people are clicking over to the affiliate program? 1%, 2%, 5% or moreperhaps less? Well, if you were a private label partner, those visitors would not need to perform a second click and 100% of the traffic would be going to the destination. When you look it all over, stepping up to the private label level just makes senseand plenty of dollars too.

Art PrintsFinding The Best Value

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Youre not in college anymore, and its time to take down the posters and replace them with original art. But, you dont have the money yet for oils or watercolors. Art prints are an affordable alternative, yet they too can be pricey. How can you tell if that art print thats caught your eye is more than just another pretty face?

Art prints are works of art in and of themselves, and may be handmade by artist-printmakers (artists prints), digitally printed (gicle), or photomechanical reproduction. (offset lithographs).

Artists prints are handmade and are not reproductions of paintings: the print is a unique work of art. The term covers a range of printmaking techniques such as etching, woodcut, engraving, screenprint and linocut. Editions tend to be less than 200, partly because the materials used to make the prints wear out. This type of print is sometimes called an original print.

Limited edition reproductions are multiples copies of the same image, but produced in guaranteed limited numbers. This makes the image more exclusive. The market price can rise over time, if demand outstrips supply. Edition sizes vary but are limited by market forces, not by the physical constraints of the printmaking method. Most limited editions are signed and numbered in pencil by the artist with a commitment that no other reproduction of the image will be made.

An open-edition reproduction print can be produced in any quantity and the image may also be used in other ways, such as on tableware. Open editions tend to cost less than limited editions and are much less likely to increase in value.

Gicle prints are made using digital printing technology, usually inkjet. The technology enables users to produce small runs of prints. It also allows retailers to offer print on demand services, where buyers select an image and it is printed out there and then.

Several factors influence the price of art prints:

Artist and Rarity
Certainly the name of the artist is a major contributor to value. But the art prints of even the same artist may have widely ranging prices. This added value is due to rarity. The more valuable print may be part of a limited edition run of only a few copies, while the more affordable from a larger open-edition run. But they are both original pieces of art by the same artist. Its a good idea to be well acquainted with the works of a particular artist and his or her peers as well. Research into an artists place in the art world will help you ensure youre getting a good value.

Editions, Signatures and Seals
Before the twentieth century artists did not routinely number nor sign their prints by hand. A signature can come from the plate but is not much of a value. What counts is an individual signature of the artist on the print, usually with a pencil (ink would eventually fade). Modern art prints are often numbered by the artist himself, i.e., “34 / 100″ (number 34 out of an edition of 100).

Condition
Its not unusual for older art prints to have some flaws. If there arent any, check again! It might be a reproduction. While minor flaws such as slight soiling are considered normal, depending on age, other defects, such as trimming into the image or heavily faded colors, can reduce the value of a print considerably.

Quality of Impression
Prints taken early from a plate or woodblock are more precise and detailed in lines than later impressions. Depending on the technique, a block/plate is worn out after a certain amount of impressions. Hardly more than 2,000 impressions could be taken from a woodblock without a rather visible deterioration of quality. Look to the numbering (i.e., 15 / 450) to determine what place in the run the print had.

Size
Larger prints tend to cost more than smaller ones. This rule of thumb is less valid for older prints than for modern ones.

Provenance
Provenance, or the items ownership history, can influence value. Prints from a famous collection will usually yield a premium.

Subject
Although a matter of opinion and personal taste, the subject of a print has a great influence on value. Youll pay more for cute animals, pretty women, nice landscapes, interesting portraits. Commercially non-appealing subjects are ugly, gloomy, or war-related, no matter how classically significant the work is. After all, its being bought to put on the wall. People will pay more if they like the image.

In the end, its your own opinion of the value of the print that matters the most. Youll be happiest with an art print that you personally like. Although art prints can sometimes be a good investment, the best way to get the most for your money is to enjoy it every day as it graces your home. The value of that? Priceless.

5 Steps to Guilt-Free Dining Out

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Perhaps dining out is something you and your family really enjoy doing. After all, it’s a great way to spend quality time together and engage in conversation, and you don’t have to be the one to cook the meal or clean up the mess. But can you really enjoy dining out together and still maintain a healthy lifestyle? The answer may surprise you.

When done in moderation, dining out can still fit in with a healthy family lifestyle. So long as you make wise food choices and keep nutritional value in mind, you can enjoy your dining experiences without the guilt. The following are five steps to guilt-free dining:

Step 1.) Skip the appetizers.

Most restaurant appetizers are high in fat and calories. Rich chip dips, mozzarella sticks, potato skins, and Buffalo wings are tempting, but they should be avoided if you wish to feel good about your food selections afterwards. Keep in mind that at many restaurants, the main course will automatically come with bread, salad, soup, or in the case of a Mexican restaurant, chips and salsa. If you simply must order an appetizer, limit it to one to share with everyone at the table.

Step 2.) Choose your entree carefully.

When it comes to your main dish, pay attention to the listed ingredients. Avoid items with cream sauces or high-fat meats. Pass on fried side items like French fries and onion rings as frying adds additional fat. Consider steamed vegetables or rice as a side dish, or ask for the side items to be left off completely.

Step 3.) Control your portions.

I cannot stress this enough. Whether dining out or eating at home, portion control is perhaps the most important factor to consider when trying to maintain healthy eating habits. When you can, order from the lunch menu since the portions are generally smaller. Also consider asking for a to-go box when placing your order so you can split your meal immediately and avoid the temptation of over indulging. This also gives you a second meal later. Another option would be to split an entrée with your spouse or child.

Step 4.) Avoid alcoholic beverages.

A mixed beverage or beer with your meal may be tempting, but try to limit alcoholic beverages to special occasions. Alcohol is very high in empty calories.

Step 5.) Say no to desserts.

Desserts may be hard to resist, but you’ll thank yourself for doing so. Not only are they very high in calories; they’re generally just as high in fat. If you’re really craving a dessert, make it a point to split one dessert with someone else. That way you’ll only take in half the fat and calories. Of course, on special occasions, it’s alright to cheat a little. Just don’t make it a habit.

Why is it Vitally Important to Buy a Travel & Medical Insurance when Booking a Trip

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

The high travel season is at the corner now. People from all walks of life around the world are currently busy searching for the best offers of air and land travel, accommodations, vacation packages to suit their dreams, needs and budgets. Some of them have even started to make their reservations.

Here I would like to emphasize one vitally important thing, which is a must to remember when booking a trip, but ignored by a great number of travelers.

Much has been written on the importance of having insurance coverage while you are on a trip, away from home. This is an issue that remains somewhat ignored by many travelers. After all, they have been traveling frequently for many years, and nothing happened so far to worry about. So, to buy a travel insurance should not a be a must. It is only an optional precaution!

But, reality urges us to believe traveling anywhere in the world without protection today, is a vital mistake. Regardless of where you are traveling in the world, you must have an insurance coverage to survive any unexpected attacks and disasters, especially after the 9/11 attacks in the U.S.A.

Let’s say, you have been planning the trip of your dreams for a long time; you have finally found the opportunity to make your long time dreams of a special trip come true.

You are so excited! You have thought of all the details. You have been actively preparing for this travel; thinking, programming, shopping . . . spending a lot of time, money, and energy! You are proud of yourself that you have finally managed to materialize your dream!

Your trip can really be an unforgettable experience from start to the end, on one condition.

When booking your trip, you should have remembered that, like most exciting events in our lives, travel has some important risks, too. For example, potential medical and/or financial risks associated with travel, can suddenly turn all the excitement and pleasures of the trip to a nightmare.

Your baggage and/or your hand bag with your money, passport, credit cards in, can be stolen leaving you desperate & frustrated in a foreign country.

No one can guarantee that a natural disaster would not happen at the place you would be staying during your trip.

An unexpected accident, injury or illness would suddenly ruin everything. In fact, in the recent years medical costs have increased dramatically, worldwide. How would you be able to pay the emergency medical expenses, expensive hospital bills if you needed an urgent treatment, or surgery and care during your travel when you have lost your money, credit cards, and passport? Isn’t it a real nightmare?

In such a frustration, the only thing you would have needed to survive was a reliable medical and travel insurance policy, wasn’t it?.

Especially in the light of the horrible threats on and after September 11 terrorist attacks, the war on terror, other ruthless terror attacks in Istanbul, Spain, Egypt and London, frequent flight disruptions and cancellations, airlines’ bankruptcies, and more. In addition, travel suppliers such as tour operators and airlines worldwide have made cancellation policies more restrictive.

Therefore, if you have to cancel a trip, it’s likely that a big portion of your pre-paid travel expenses will not be refunded by travel suppliers.

Recent SARS and bird flu threats have also been urging travelers and vacationers to seriously consider to buy a travel and medical insurance.

Travel Insurance types and prices defer from one travel insurance provider to another.

You have to review, compare and select the best offers to suit your personal needs.

For instance, some insurance providers do not offer coverage outside the U.S.A. Some companies do not provide emergency medical coverage and care, while others do.

Some airlines do not accept to be held responsible for the acts of God, weather problems, natural disasters, riots and unrests, SARS, bird flu, and similar outbreaks.

The Insurance types you will need on a trip are reviewed below:

Last Minute Cancellation Insurance
With the last minute cancellation and/or interruption insurance you will get coverage on non-refundable deposits you had made when you bought your travel insurance. Read the fine print on the policy carefully when buying this insurance. You should discuss your personal needs with your insurance agent before buying it.

Medical Insurance
This is one of the most important insurance policies you should have. Buying health and medical insurance must be considered as an important part of your travel budget. You can face a health problem or an accident anywhere and anytime during your trip. Be sure your medical and health insurance policy covers illness, accidents, surgeries, hospitalization bills in the countries you will be visiting, emergency medical transportation to your home country. Please remember to have your policies with you when traveling, leaving the copies of your insurance policies with a relative in your home country, in case the policies you have with you are lost.

Comprehensive Insurance Policy
This policy generally covers emergency medical transportation and trip cancellation and interruption, plus other needs you would expect. This insurance costs 5 to 7 percent of the total cost of the trip. You should have it for your safety.

What types of insurance policies do we need for a full protection?

The Essential Insurance Types offered by most providers are Travel, Last Minute, Medical, Health, Life, Hotel, Cruise, Air, Vacations, Luxury, car insurance, sports, and Spa Insurance policies.

Some travel insurance companies also offer affordable coverage for a wide range of winter sports including Ski, Off-Piste and Snowboarding.

We might need not one, but several types of insurance policies according to the general conditions at the destinations we’re going to.

If your your kids are going with you, many travel insurance providers let them go free with adults.

Some companies provide policies for students, backpackers, cheap travel, holiday insurance, long stay, international, family travel, single travel, annual travel, annual multi-trips, and more. It’s good to know that in this cyber age, you can buy the insurance policies you need online, without even leaving your home.
Most Travel Insurance policies cover Luggage Loss, too.

But you should definitely ask about what’s covered and what’s not when choosing Travel Insurance Policy to buy. Do ask questions, all questions you might have in mind, until you get all the information you need. It’s much better to ask questions when buying insurance than to be sorry later.

How can I find the best insurance type to suit my personal or family needs?

When choosing a travel insurance policy to buy, you should get information on the offers of various insurance providers to compare.

Knowing how time consuming is to search, compare and choose the best travel and medical insurance types and prices to suit your needs and budget, we advice to visit the websites where you can find lists and information about various offers, then compare them, and choose the best ones to suit your needs.

You should keep in mind that buying your travel insurance through travel insurance providers, instead of travel agencies, would save you money in most cases.

In the light of terrorist attacks, unexpected natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, deadly hurricanes, floods, epidemics, accidents, illness, SARS, bird flu, claiming hundreds of thousands of lives at many places around the world, especially in the recent years, every traveler must seriously consider to buy a travel health and a medical insurance, and some other insurance policies if needed, providing a reliable full coverage against both expected and unexpected threats.
